Founded in 2020, Jane Publishers creates books inspired by the bookshelf of Jane, the girl who I meet sometimes in a dream, exploring women’s lifestyles and ideas. In an age where almost everything has gone digital, time-honored craftsmanship is too often dismissed as inefficient. We started Jane Publishers because we wanted to carry the analog world forward, with a little help from the digital one. Each book is made with care, so it can be loved for years to come. We work with long-established Japanese artisans on printing, binding and finishing, and some of our books are made partly by hand. - Jane Publishers Founder Chiharu Nagakura
Jane Publishersは、夢でときどき会う女の子"Jane"の本棚をイメージして、女性のライフスタイルや彼女たちの思想を書籍にしている出版社です。手にとった人が少しだけ軽やかに、今日をより心地よく過ごせるよう、願いを込めて本をつくっています。
Jane Publishersが生まれたのは2020年。なんでもデジタルで手に入るようになった今、時間と手間をかける古き良きものづくりは、ときに「非効率なもの」として片付けられてしまいます。けれど私たちは、紙の手ざわりや、ページをめくる時間のような、アナログの世界にしかない豊かさを手放したくありませんでした。デジタルの力に支えてもらいながら、アナログの世界を次へと引き継いでいきたい。そんな思いから、Jane Publishersははじまりました。
だからこそ、一冊一冊を丁寧に。流行が過ぎても本棚に残り、何年たっても開きたくなる本であるように、長く大切にしていただけるものづくりを心がけています。
長く続く日本の職人さんたちと、印刷、製本、加工を、本によっては手作業で行っています。受け継がれてきた技術と手仕事に支えられて、Jane Publishersの本は作られています。
